Re: help with close ups
I actually think its a pretty good shot, i like the composition but its looks a little flat. What it needs is a few little post production tweaks in Elements or PS.
I hope you dont mind but i had a little play and Boosted the contrast by applying an 'S' curve, adjusted contrast and brightness, cropped a little and then sharpened it. ![]() |

Re: help with close ups
I like the love he shows towards his sister by putting his arm around her, stupots version does seem a little better.
(shuttermum, are they twins? they look sooo much alike ! ) |

Re: help with close ups
thanks for the comments i do like it better cropped ,I like the colour but i don't like how now the light on billys face seems harsh. Hope you can understand what i mean? (and no i don't mind that you tweaked it)
No they are not twins but they are very alike tamika is almost ten and billy is 8. They are very close and are great mates. |

The problem lies in your original shot where the lighting is not balanced enough. A reflector to the left of the kids would have lifted the shadow areas a little and the light would then still have enough modelling detail, but with the shadows being less harsh. Better control of the lighter areas would also then have been possible. It is possible to lighten the shadows and/or darken the highlights (I can't have a go as I'm at work) and this might be the answer for this shot. I like Stu's crop better as it removes the verical feature that looks as if it was growing outr of Tamika's head! Alwas good to be aware of the backgound with portraits.
