Re: Highlands
I rather struggle with this - you really want the main subject, the mountain, to be well lit, instead of which you have a well lit sky and foreground. So I've attempted to reverse that - tho' would go back to my original shots and probably pick another, to be honest
![]() Darken/Detail in sky, lighten mountain and darken the foreground line of trees. Used dodge and burn and increased yellow/red saturation to "light up" the mountain |

Re: Highlands
thanks i think i agree pick another image ...as with my top one the fg bushy bits are more like natural colour , however i wanted the mountain to stand out ,so think will go for greater DOF next time. The one you have done for me , and it may be monitor as it has a tad to much of pink tinge to it .The rest of the image you have done is great and i like the way mountain stands out ...Oh well back to drawing board with ps .
Thanks again for you assistance much appreciated ![]() |

Re: Highlands
At the risk of sounding like Dave, might I offer a mono option Sue? I have had a quick go at one and think it has a bit more impact. I adjusted the channels in three different layers, the sky, the mountains and the foreground. It isn't perfect and I had to be careful with the sky as it was a bit pixellated so going too dark brought out noise but it gives you an idea of how it might look. See what you think, I won't be in the slightest offended if you don't like it

Re: Highlands
thanks for showing another different idea to do .Apart from as you say a bit dark and noise. I actually quite like the effect.I think once i master the layers and also work out when dodging and burning ,how much of areas i need to do , just general and basic ps understanding and applying i will have a better chance.
But one thing i will be doing is , do a mono version as well . Again thanks so much for all comments and techniques. |

Re: Highlands
Hi Sue
I really like the colors here, the greens, purples, oranges of Mark's pimp. The original is a bit too dark on my screen. I also like the various lines, the hill, the midground and forground curves, but when all is said: This image doesn't speak to me, either on an artistic or emotional basis. That is probably just me, but for me, it is just another nice landscape, without some sort of impact. I am sure that if I had been there, I would have loved the pic, but that is not what you want. You want the total stranger to see this and love it. Finally, I want you to know that Fi isn't the only recipient of my brutality. Noone is immune. And please, do not take it as a personal affront. I just don't sugarcoat, and don't expect anyone to parse what they say about my images. That is why I upload an image ![]() skip |

thanks skip Definately DONOT want any sugarcoated comments! I place my pics here for honest constuctive critism, also i want comments that i can learn from .So to me i dont class your comments as brutal . plus taking into account that all comments are only suggestions and that persons personal opinion,So to me i take them all as a learning tool , and to take from them ,what i believe i can benefit from and what can help me achieve the image that iam after. Skip the only thing i do ask , is if you give me a suggestion ,please explain how i am to do it ,for example if you said Sue you may want to burn hill....i need to know how to burn hill ,If that makes sense. ![]()
