Re: Horse Hair Jewellery
I think the exposure is ok, perhaps slightly dark, though I am not sure about the composition. I don't know if there is a relationship between the necklace and the wood ('scuse my ignorance Summer!) but the way the necklace follows the line of the wood looks a touch contrived. I think I'd prefer it to be a separate line, draped over or whatever, so that it creates a more dynamic and interesting interaction. Because I don't know of a relationship here, I am sort of left wondering what the two are doing together but that isn't to say that a still-life always has to have an obvious meaning or whatever.
Am I just being too critical? Maybe I should only enjoy it for the shapes and so forth but to be honest I then feel the necklace doesn't add much as the wood is far more interesting (to me). There is a lot more detail and texture in that which could be brought out, also some lovely colours that could be stronger. I think there are more images to come from this idea ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: Horse Hair Jewellery
Well the wood and jewellery relationship is that the client wanted it lol the idea was something natural
Im finding a problem where if I dont slightly underexpose the gold looks pale and washy any ideas? The other options we are trying are just on an acrylic base, also i was given a horse shoe but with that being so bright it seems to take away from the jewellery. I really want to get this spot on before I show any to the client to see if she likes it. P.S its a bracelet

Re: Horse Hair Jewellery
I think I agree with Rob, I don't think the wood is the correct medium to bring out the best in the bracelet. Not sure what would be a good alternative though, Silver matt plastic? (Just glancing over at my tv.), or some kind of fabric?

Re: Horse Hair Jewellery
I've been looking out for these as was interested to see the jewellery since you mentioned it in your other post.
![]() I really like the whole 'natural' feel... but as a potential punter, I'd like to see more of the jewellery detail than the wood/setting. I wonder if the shots are a little 'wide'and therefore closer/cropped versions would show the jewellery in more detail. It also crossed my mind that the jewellery is getting a little lost in the natural tones of the wood? But as I said, I really do like the whole concept - just not sure whether it allows the beauty of the jewellery to be displayed fully. |

Re: Horse Hair Jewellery
I agree with Ali. you cannot see enough detail in the jewellery and it is that the punter will be interested. The wood background is fine but you also mentioned a horse shoe was bright ?. What about a rusty one or more.

Re: Horse Hair Jewellery
I'm with Ali ... (1) shots are too wide, you need to get in closer to the jewellery to give the pieces due emphasis, and (2) I like the wood as the display medium, but you need to find a way of pushing attention onto the jewellery, e.g. using DoF, lighting, etc.
I find the BG in both distracting, as I can see bits that I suspect are not s'posed to be visible in the shot. Composition - the first one is a bit boringly arranged, although its simplicity is growing on me. Maybe a tighter crop would help. The 2nd pic is much better, with a more artistic placement of the necklace, and is generally a much more successful attempt I think. Only thing with the 2nd one is that the whole necklace, including all of the chain, should be in sharp focus, to avoid the viewer's attention from wandering onto the wood. A good first effort, and I look forward to seeing the next lot

Re: Horse Hair Jewellery
I think the problem is some of the peices are shaped so that the won't drape like the necklace, I know alot of people said Jewellery is difficult and they werent lying lol
it might be we finish on the Acrylic but will see |

Re: Horse Hair Jewellery
Summer, I had the same reaction regarding the wood. Guess it would make a better connection for me if what the piece was on was horse related - something that would not distract from the piece - maybe a saddle - the solid color leather might make a nice backdrop to the piece and the brown leather color might complement the gold fittings.
