How can I improve this?

Hi, I am trying to improve my portraiture skills and welcome any constructive criticism on this photo. Please can you tell me what is good and what needs to be improved? Thanks

Re: How can I improve this?

Hi David, if having problems from Photobox feel free to upload your shot in the gallery. If you upload to "Members Gallery" it will automatically come under your ID. You can then post back in here. Either Sonsey or Stepheno will tidy thread up for you once loaded .

Looking forward to seeing shot & what people on here can achieve to help you

Re: How can I improve this?

Hi David, If it were me (and this is just my humble opinion) I would have got the girl to drop her left glove a little and turn her right shoulder into the shot to show a little more impact, also the use of a hairlight if possible would have helped to lift the lighting a bit and giving the shot more impact.

Re: How can I improve this?

Thanks Gary.

I did try a hair light but was not happy with the results I got as it was the first time I used one. Do you use a snoot when you use a hair light to direct the light more?

Will keep trying though.

Generally yes, or a small softbox, Blonde hair, extra 1/2 a stop to black hair an extra 2 stops. work out the in between colours. Other than that, keep going fella, it's all in the right direction. Im not sure where you live but if you would like, the next time im doing a studio shoot, feel free to come along and be an asisstant, thats how I learned. Im not brilliant but im sure you could pick uo something!!!!!!!
