Re: I tried again
Tried my best to ruin...... er, I mean improve this! Like it as is, tho' a principle of rising to the challenge made me do this:
![]() Bit of dodge and burn as you'd expect! Altered levels and reduced saturation a touch

Re: I tried again
Oh Soup, that's lovely!! I like the effect Markulous has created with the sea but I think his version has lost something in the sky.

Re: I tried again
The shot I posted originally shows the sky and colours as they were at the time (give or take a bit of artistic licence).
It's the kind of shot you could make almost any colour and the viewer would be none the wiser. Ahh! the beauty of a sunset! |

Re: I tried again
OK, Soup....
Don't think this has a lot of interest going for it. Do the stab wounds hurt a lot?? Nice warm colors, but the clouds are pretty bland. The combination of the horizon and shoreline draw my eyes to the right, nearly off the frame. Are ya bleeding yet? The exposure is a tad dark, but when Mark lightened it up, it still doesn't make my heart skip a beat. Respirator? So, I really think that this pretty much wasn't worth waiting for. I have seen much better sunsets on the board. Did you sign a DNR? All in fun, soup. skip |

Re: I tried again
I'm liking the second image, the brighter water brings it alive.

Re: I tried again
it's an ok image, exposure/colour/detail is all good, it's just not exciting to me,. it might be to others
![]() the 'law of landscapes' (I'm sure I heard it somewhere) is foreground / middle ground / background,. it has all three parts but I think I'm wanting stronger foreground interest,. landscapes are difficult to make interesting,. trying to squeeze a really amazing sunset into 2d / onto film is a mission,. I tend to aim for wideangle, quite low and with a large object near to the camera,. works for me (sometimes!) Sil |

Re: I tried again
I think the contrast was a touch flat but Mark's pimp has brought that out and made it a lot more striking so you did just fine Soup. I prefer this to the other one, a definite improvement because even though there isn't a specific focal point, it was noticeably absewnt in the last one but in this one the sky is enough, especially with the clouds as brought out in the 2nd version.
I also like the fact that the wave lines are at more of an angle so give it a slightly more dynamic feel as triangles and wedges tend to do in photos. Overall a very definite improvement so sorry, I can't stab you in the heart with my critique.... but I could maybe stick a staple in your thumb or something if it'd make you feel better ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: I tried again
So, in summary:
Too dark, not sharp enough, no point of interest, generally boring. Bring it on! |

Re: I tried again
right. positives:
love the letterpox crop it really draws the eye along the horizon. Like the colouring in the sky on the first one its warm and comforting. like the line of the wave it WOULD have been boring if it had been straight! Negatives.: dont like the water water is flat and uninteresting, in Marks pimp it is much more alive with more movement. Would have liked to see more of a focal point in the image, although it does hold itself for not having one. there how did i do.. see you are not bleeding too badly! ![]() Fi |
