Re: Ice Office

Nice quiet picture, everthing looks great but the blue shadow under the tree, alittle to bright maybe, that one scares me cause I don't know how to fix it.

Re: Ice Office

Comp looks good tho' image needs a CW rotate to make the verticals, well, vertical! Given the simplicity, wonder how it'd look as a mono, or even sepia?

Shadow is 'lighter' under the tree due to it being on snow which reflects the light and is usually blue. If necessary (and not too sure it is here) you could use the Sponge tool in PS (with the D&B tool and used similarly )to desaturate a little.

Re: Ice Office

this i really like, it holds the eye and tells a story, super stuff, as has already been said it needs rotated, the shadow doesnt worry me cos u would expect it to be there given the snow, and it makes it more 3 dimensional.

Re: Ice Office

Good Grief.........as much as I worked on this shot, I never noticed the verticals Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees........
I think I have things straightened out now. Is this better?

Re: Ice Office

For me, I find this shot a bit busy. My eye cant seem to settle on any one portion of the image.
When my eye does finally come to rest it ends up on the blue patch of sky. I also find the arrows on the sign draw my eye out of the left of the photo.

I think I would crop the right hand portion of the photo away entirely removing the bright blue and the deep shadow below the right hand tree. The sign would then become the focal point of the image with some nice diagonals drawing your eye towards it.

If you want to try a crop like this I think Dave's suggestion of mono or sepia would really improve it.

Re: Ice Office

I really like this Paul, it is a well thought out shot with the ICE notice and the snow tying the whole image together and giving it a sense of irony. I know there were some things you could do to make it perfect technically but if I am honest I just looked at it and thought 'Love it, great idea' and the off-vertical vertcals and brighter shadow didn't occur to me at all until I sat and looked at it with a technical eye. Does sort of highlight the point that sometimes we forget to simply enjoy pictures for what they are.

Good work.
Rob
