The innocence of a childs eyes...
Hope you like, would love some critique, and harsh critique, but bear in mind this isn't a posed shot, he was on my gf's lap and i grabbed my camera, so the line above his head for example can't be helped.
PS work includes, cropping, levels, desaturating everything except eyes, slightly softening everything except eyes, and running a very faint sepia tone over it all... ![]() Higher resolution... http://static.flickr.com/112/304877147_8cb35813d0_o.jpg |

Re: The innocence of a childs eyes...
The eyes are certainly bold and strong and make a real connection with the viewer. I wonder whether all the softening and desaturating was really necessary. Seems those eyes are pretty powerul anyway.
Excellent grab shot there Tim, well done :o) Cheers, Rob |

Re: The innocence of a childs eyes...
have to agree with Rob here that i would have liked to have seen it in full colour, plus i think perhaps a bit too much crop at the top as he has lost just the tip of the top of his head. a great expression however lovely image.

Re: The innocence of a childs eyes...
The eyes are definitely dominant, but then the hand is pretty strong too. I would probably crop 5mm off the bottom just to lose a couple of creases on his wrist. This image i reckon would lend itself well to being in a square format as there is a lot wasted space either side. And one last thing since you wanted us to be harsh....the shadow under the child's right side jaw line (our left as we look at it) seems to be too dark, maybe a little dodging would help it a bit.
It's one of those pics though, if you did nothing to it it would still be a good pic. |

Re: The innocence of a childs eyes...
Agree with all of the above. If you could crop his head back in, then decenter, I would crop to nearly his right shoulder, and a bit to his left, I think it would be a better photo. Also I would like to see the undesaturated image. If there was too much red, for instance, this could easily be corrected. I played for a minute here. I think mono portaits are sooo good.

Re: The innocence of a childs eyes...
I like the idea of trying mono but the only prob here is you've made it twice the size and it now looks rather pixelated with compression artefacts. Sized back at the same size, I think this would look fine. P[ersonally I have to say I like babies to be in colour, they do have a fresh vibrance about them and so I would like to see the fully coloured original and see what it's like, also with the top of the head back in place if this was cropped. If it isn't in the original then that's the way it goes. Those deep blue eyes are so lovely though that I think they need colour around them to really show this lovely child off best.
Cheers, Rob

Re: The innocence of a childs eyes...
Hi Rob
Sorry about the size...I didn't pay attention to that. You have a point about the blue eyes, but I still rather like the mono. I also cloned the nasty background. skip |
