Re: Its a Boat
Hmmm, mono's not really my thing but I'll have a go, as a few things do occur to me with this one :
Firstly, I would rotate the pic clockwise to put the trees on the vertical. Now I know you're going to say they are on a slope, but I just feel it needs to be that the trees are vertical + the boat can be on the slope, just for this image ![]() Secondly, it's very high contrast, with the trees + boat looking like they're spotlit (car lights, maybe). This gives the impression that there's a lot of detail been lost there that could do with being brought out. Maybe a bit of burning in PS? Other than those two things, I kinda like it ![]()

Re: Its a Boat
I'm also a bit unsure of this one. The songsheet that Charlotte and I were singing from recently was only one page, because unlike Charlotte, I prefer the orientation you have here. I see the trees being on a slope and the boat on the 'beach' after the tide has gone out. To put the boat on the slope would not gel with me, but that is only my take on it and shows how we all see things in a different light.

Re: Its a Boat
OK, on the third hand, until dab mentioned the beach, I didn't appreciate it. I didn't get the feeling that the boat was beached, and because it is so highlighted, barely got the idea that it is a boat! OK, that is an exaggeration, but you know what I mean.
So, for me, there is no sense of beach or water here. There are two possible remedies. First, and I know that this is anathema to you, Fi, COLOR . This would give a much better sense of surroundings. Another possibility would be to show more of the left side and probably the water, just a bit, so that we could get the sense of the scene. That being said, I like the mono, so I would go with the second suggestion, if you can. skip |

Re: Its a Boat
Yes, I realised that. I could only come up with:
It's not a boat. Or It's a Tree. So I left it untitled. ![]() |

Re: Its a Boat
ROFL Charlotte, that reminds me of one of the most stupid photography judges I have ever seen....
I entered a picture I had taken of my wife stood on Beachy Head (No, not contemplating anything so let's not go down that road!) gazing out to see. I had her positioned in a lovely spot on the third looking into the picture. Her hair was being gently swept by the wind and she was razor sharp focused with the sea behind in focus but soft to provide a nice contrast. In short, everyone before and after who made comments said 'I really liked that one!' The title of the picture was quite important.... 'I SEE NO SHIPS!' which was the title I had intended before I even took the shot. The judge's comment, even though the title was read out before he gave his comments: 'Well, I like the technical aspects of the shot, it's been well taken... but what it really needs is a ship in this open area of the sea!' Like, doh! If it had a ship in it, the title would be a bit stupid! Guess which judge never got invited back to my club! Cheers, Rob
