Jules at Window - nudity
![]() After an hour or so shooting inside with flash because of lousy natural light, the sun finally came out and I shot this of Jules near the window. Yes, I know, window lit shots are pretty standard, but ya do what ya gotta do ![]() The only changes besides mono conversion were some exposure and plastic surgical changes, removing a stray hair, etc. Rob, I know you are not fond of eyes partially hidden by hair, but I think this adds a cerain mystique to this. skip whoa....I just saw it, I should have removed the bit of her tatoo....but then again, that is her. She had several and was mightly proud of them. I also see that her breast is a tad blown, even after I burned it, so don't rag me about that! And darnit, I forgot to sharpen the eyes a bit. It boggles the mind to think of a bunch of 60 year old ladies with tatoos in about 2055. No problem, I won't be here then. Last edited by skipper954; 25-11-2006 at 03:48. |

Re: Jules at Window - nudity
i like this image....... my only problem is that it looks as if she has squint eyes, but in the other shots of her i have seen she doesnt. i think maybe if you had kept the right shoulder in the frame it would have made her more complete. but all in all a lovely shot !

Re: Jules at Window - nudity
Another nice shot, Skip, but I actually like it better cropped as a head and soulders, just below the end of her hair. I'm not sure if it is because her breast is a bit blown or if it is just because it is there, or both, but it seems better balanced cropped as suggested.

Re: Jules at Window - nudity
I quite like this shot Skip and I agree that the eyes are fine in this case, there is enough of her right eye to make contact but also that air of mystery as you mentioned.
I have a feeling you cropped her left shoulder because it was a bit light as that would be nearest to the window and we can see that the light on her breast is already very bright, not quite burnt out but certainly strong. I am glad though that the hair is light because asd we know, the viewers eye tends to be attracted by the lightest point on a photo and here the hair is stronger than the lightness of the breast, keeping our attention focused first of all on the hair and eyes (much better after you sharpened them. It would have felt entirely different had the eye been drawn first straight down to the rbeast for obvious reasons. You said you stopped using flash and then went to the window.... and so she started flashing again <g> Can I just ask what it is that she is holding? I find it intriguing because the material tells part of the story. If it were a towel, it would feel like she has just got out or just getting into the bath, I am not sure bit this looks like a sheet so maybe it is suggesting she has just got out of bed and taken the sheet with her for a little modesty, I don't know. All in all a pleasant use of natural lighting and good that you managed to get some light onto her right-hand side so that is wasn't all shadow. Not sure whether you used a reflector or the natural light surface of the wall behind or or whatever. It works well anyway :o) Cheers, Rob

Re: Jules at Window - nudity
Thanks, Rob. She is holding the same purple material that Sasha used on the beach. It had multiple uses. Unfortunately, I left it there
. In the color images, it really goes well with her blond hair. I purchased that color because I thought that it would go with blonds and brunettes. Now I have to buy more material, but I have no shoots in store ![]() I did have to do a fair amount of d and b to darken her hair and breast, and to lighten some shadows under her eyes. Thanks for your great comments. skip |

Re: Jules at Window - nudity
I'm somewhere twixt and tween on this one: I like the soft version made by Juan but I like the lighting contrast on the original so perhaps somewhere between the two would be good. The soft one is just a bit flat in terms of lighting.
I would love to have seen the original colour version myself. I am not sure that being mono has added anything to the shot but would like to compare the two. Cheers, Rob |

Re: Jules at Window - nudity
OK....here is the color. I didn't spend a lot of time on it. The really good thing here is the color of the fabric contrasted to Jules hair and skin.

Re: Jules at Window - nudity
I totally agree Skip, that colour goes really nicely. I really like this much more in colour to be honest. If her right eye were just a bit clearer it would be spot on. The mono v colour thing is always going to be down to taste but personally this kind of shot always feels better in colour. Not saying all portraits should be colour, I love seeing really characterful faces in mono, often old people with wrinkles on wrinkles and so forth.
But nice shot, I like this a lot :o) Cheers, Rob |
