Re: Julia_ Heliconius Orange Butterfly

With shots as good as this Ray, we are reduced to nit-picks. I think I'd prefer it in portrait orientation.

Nice separation of the subject and BG and good exposure control.

You are getting better and better. You must have noticed this yourself, so very well done.

I bet you're enjoying it, they're looking great! Not so much a criticism as a suggestion as to presentation:

Rotate, crop

Re: Julia_ Heliconius Orange Butterfly

I like Mark's crop but I also like the original, with a bit more space. Lovely light and colours Ray, and good DOF once again

Re: Julia_ Heliconius Orange Butterfly

The stem is vertical in Mark's edit. I prefer it not vertical - more natural.

Re: Julia_ Heliconius Orange Butterfly

Yeah, as Graham says I rotated to make stem vertical. Did this because of central nature of shot - if subject had been off-centre I'd agree with him and leave it angled!

Edit: No worries, Ray!

Re: Julia_ Heliconius Orange Butterfly

I far prefer the rotated version because it has put the wings of the butterfly onto an angle which makes it a much more dynamic image. The crop definitely helps too.

As for the rest of it, not much to fault there Ray, lovely sharp image with beautifully softened BG and lovely colours. You are really on a winning streak at the moment!

Cheers,
Rob

Indeed you should be pleased with this Ray. I would have been inclined to crop it a lightle tighter as the others have done
