Ps: I know about the lines in the sky, I've yet to fiddle with this.
Cheers |

I used Paint shop Pro 7 so I'm not sure if its the same in Ps.
Copied to a new layer, added brightness (20) and Gaussian Blur (5) Mixed layers to 30% new Layer, 70% Background. Merged Layers. Used channel mixer and selcted monotone (black) Upped red to 90% Upped green to 105% Dropped blue to -100% Resized for the web Sharpen. Not sure if this is the "Correct" way of doing it, but its all a learning curve. Hope this helps |

I like it, I was going to try the same article myself today if I can find a decent image to go with.

I'd leave the lines in the sky - as it is, everything leads the eye to the wheel in the IR version. In the colour version, the building seems to be the resting point.

yes it does, but its not something that strikes you straight away, you really have to study the shot to realise quiet how big it is! (thats not a bad thing btw)

Photography aside for a moment... what is it?
The top bit is a mystery to me - if the aqueduct feeds water to it then how come its lower than the top? Or is that just the angle of view? |

Visited it when I was a young whippersnapper. I think you did a pretty good bw conversion there. A little obsession of mine at the moment! |

Thanks for the comments guys, here's a little history I've found.
Set upon the hills near the village Laxey rests a giant. Lady Isabella named after former Lieutenant Governor Hope's wife is also know as the Laxey Wheel. Built in 1854. The Laxey Wheel remains the largest working waterwheel in the world. The wheel has a diameter of 72ft and a circumference of 227ft. It was used to pump 250 gallons of water a minute from the Laxey mines some 200 yards away and 1500ft below ground. The mines employed over 600 miners at its peak producing lead, copper, silver and zinc till the mines closed in 1929. Tourists had long come to see the wheel, even when the mines were still in use and they continue to come to this day. |
