Well you should be happy with that. Given the very limited DOF you've got the head pin sharp there, What lens was it?

Nice photo dod! I like the fact that the head and mouthparts are all in focus. Too many people concentrate on getting the wings in focus

One tiny suggestion though - try upping the saturation a little. It just might bring out the colour a little more

Thanks Kate, done Really can't push it too far, there's already a blown out reflection from the sun and the front of the shell goes strange going any further

Cracking shot. Nice and sharp on its head and great DOF. (Better than spiders :wink: ). I've been looking at investing in a decent macro lens and I think that the one you're using may just fit the bill.

Great detail in the bugs facial area.

The flash is a bit harsh, try reflecting of a white paper plate or something similar, this will soften the light and give a more pleasing affect.

Thanks, no flash though, the burnt out bit was the sun reflecting, couldn't really do much about it , here's the exif

You can do something with harsh sunlight, Use your body if possible to shade your subject.
If you have someone with you ask them to hold something over you to create the same effect.

Fill in flash can also help in harsh sunlight.

You're right Matt, only problem was I was lying on the ground with the lens pointing slightly up at it. I never thought to use the flash if I'm honest Was too busy trying to get the little blighter, he wouldn't stop moving

I have taken some photos of ladybirds with the 100mm Macro lens and can appreciate the patience the skills required to get a sharp photo like that.
