Lamp

I could really use some opinions on a project I was working on last night.

I'm trying to put something together to show off this light and I want to strike a balance with the supporting frames between a slightly abstract sculptural look and images that still relate to the product.

Now it's hard for me to tell if this has worked as I know the form of thing but you lot haven't seen it so you can look with fresh eyes, so to speak.

I've used a link as this site doesn't seem to like showing images hosted with fotopic but it's scaled down to the usual 800 pixels and 160k.

dazza, I think it works quite well.

I'm not too sure about a couple of things though.

The image at the top left, the DOF doesnt seem right, with the rear switch being OOF, but that's just my opinion. The in focus part, i feel, should be more prominent than the OOF part, but I feel they're equally prominent, so my eye isn't drawn to the in focus one.

The bottom right image (the blue bits), I feel are too tight a crop. I think if you included a little bit more surrounding, it would look more like a 'close up' than abstract, if that makes sense.

Those are just my criticisms, as I'm sure you would like subjective opinions on this.

Like I say though, I feel the image does work very well as a whole, and the bordering does serve to enhance the image somewhat.

Regards

Top job Daz, I'm not sure I'd alter anything there at all. :icon_cool

Oh alright then - the two little texture details at bottom right leaves me wondering why they're both the same colour? Why not one blue and one amber?

Very nice work though.

That was a choice just to try and make something a little more intersting out of it. I've actually swung the camera back so the plane of focus moves away and puts the rear switch very OOF.

..... and also exaclty why I wanted some input from here, as I'm not sure about it and feel to close to it now to make a good call.

It's a segment from the blue ring around the bottom. Something with amber as well might be a better bet though. I'll have a play.

Cheers.

Totally agree.

A couple of minor comments. Agree with CT on the colours of the detail at the bottom. I would maybe even slightly increase the saturation of the blue and amber (but not the gold).

From a structural point of view, you have gone to great lengths to lead the images of the base and stem into each other and then placed them together in the natural flow. However the other elements dont follow the natural flow and probably shouldn't as all the brightly coloured parts would be on the left. Maybe putting the small coloured detail mentioned above between the base and stem or swapping the base and stem around may break it up a little.

These are my opinions and I am an engineer at heart so what do I know about art!
