Leaf it out
![]() Been chucking it down all morning in sunny Southampton - no worries though 'cos of working at home. Rain stopped and the sun briefly came out. This is a pic of some sort of Japanese tree on the balcony (my wife would know the name - to me, it's "The Tree"). The thing is, is that I like this sort of thing but part of me does think it's a tad dull (as a photo and as a subject). Any ideas on how to improve this type of shot? I suppose having a macro lens and focusing tightly on a droplet would help? Cheers David aka milou 300D | 1/640 @ f/3.5 (a bit windy! ;D) | 50mm | RAW ISO 100 (PS:CS - crop/levels/USM then fade unsharp mask luminosity setting - idea nicked from this month's Outdoor Photography mag) |

I really like it, to have gone in much closer would have dramitacally reduced the range of colours that you've got there. Which is what I like the most.
Would have been nice to see the edge of the leaf on the left hand side though. OT, this site is gonna do nothing for my productivity.  |

It’s a Japanese Maple I think and very well taken.

Cheers :)
It is a Japanese maple - cutting, apparently, taken from my mum-in-law's tree (so I'm now told). I hardly seem to change this 50mm lens nowadays. |

I like it, the lighting and colours are great.
The only thing that would improve it, would be to position the main leaf more to the left. |
