Remove him.

Edit; Sorry Fi I should have given my reasons for removing him .........It doesn't appear that the picture was composed to include him as it looks like you have cut his left foot off .

If he had been adding to the image, I'd say leave him. As it looks like he is not enjoying the experience as much as you, remove him.

Next time, don't forget to include his feet!

Re: leave him or remove him

Well it's not much fun gazing at a mouldy old wall just so your mum can have all the fun with the camera, is it

Love the rest of it, including the composition, with good colours, + exposure is spot on

Re: leave him or remove him

Including a person in a shot needs to be for a reason, and in this case there is no obvious reason. He seems entirely disconnected from and disinterested in the church which is the main subject of the shot.

Were this a shot of a person going into the cathedral, a person outside reading a Bible or a priest in vestments etc then there would be a clear and logical tie to the subject.

Of course if your photo is supposed to say 'Church is boring' then perhaps this is a valid use (I'd disagree of course but then I guess you'd expect me too <g>) but this image doesn't quite hang together, sorry.

As for the rest of the image, the church is dwarfed by the heavy dark greenery to the left so detracts strongly from the subject. At the very least I would crop a large portion of the left off completely. The lighter trees on the right are ok and removing the left, apart from a thin area of overlap between the branches and the church, would put the church onto a third and give it a lot more balance.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: leave him or remove him

Hi Fi

Some comments:

This one looks like there is more shadow detail.
I think here that the church should have been off center. In the original, along with the road, your son sort of points the eye to the church, even though he is not connecting with it, and so the centering works ok.

Finally, the removal of your son was done very well. If you can remember, could you go through the steps?

Re: leave him or remove him

hi Skip, thanx for that, to remove my son all i did was enlarge the pic and used a small brush ( harder for the edges of the wall, and softer for the rest). that was it

Re: leave him or remove him

Picture is definitely much better and you removed Murray very well. I would still defintiely remove a good inch from the left and then I think the pic will work just fine balance-wise.

Much much better without the lad in the image, as the low wall can now lead the eye of the viewer into your image
