Re: Lily

I really like the color in the background. An all black background is so cliche'! Did you grow the lilly?

The shot comes out very well indeed, nice colour and detail... the Tamron's a lens I'm looking at myself

Re: Lily

An extremely attractive picture. Well composed and exposed, so you have caught the texture in the petals. I agree with Fi, perhaps just a little too much background, but not much. Well done!

Re: Lily

Exposure is spot on, with fab colour + detail in the flower

I like the BG, except I can see a vertical fold in the velvet, just to the right of the flower, which I find a bit distracting.

Composition is not your best sawdust, perhaps a slant would make it more appealing, + get the chopped-off leaf in view, + generally balance the compo better within the frame.

HTH.

Re: Lily

Intersting and unexpected composition - like it.
Yeah, the backdrop you used is visable - the question is: should it be more visable or less visable? Not sure it matters which way - but this in between with the obvious fold is a bit bothersome.

Re: Lily

Thanks all this is what I need . to address some points ther amount of background was choice as it fits with the other ones ie flower bottom left lots of background a kind of minimalist !!! but yes I do have some more traditional style, the fold in the background well can't see that on this monitor except in the blue one were I managed to clone that out . all in all a good response thank you, It always helps me to get some advise from the ons I respect the most {yes you lott}

Re: Lily

I agree.

A bit less bg on right

Different angle on the stem, more diagonal

Also, I wonder: did you use fill flash. The shadows on the petals could be even softer.

But still, a wonderful shot.
