Re: Lock House

Nice lead of the path to the bridge and over to the Lock House

Maybe a little dark at the far right and maybe it just needs a slight tilt to the right.

Re: Lock House

I like this Agree with P-E, it needs a slight rotation clockwise. Maybe bring out a bit more sky detail. Good compo, super colours. Tricky exposure, being quite high contrast. Could you recover some of the detail in the shadows, or maybe reduce the contrast a tad? Very pleasant image

ohhhh now thats weird..... lol the comment is before the picture.! had me totally confussed there for a minute.
anyway... i lvoe this, agree it could be brought up a bit but u need to be careful not to lose the little bit of detail u have managed to retain the little bit of detail in the sky.

Re: Lock House

Thanks folks.

I have now uploaded a different version of the same picture with comments taken on board. Levelled it out (why I didn't spot that myself in the first place I have no idea) and lightened it up a touch overall. I'm considering this and this for printing for the merit print comps at camera club

Re: Lock House

Ooh I do like Kinver Lock No.11 (flickr) but would crop half an inch off the bottom, just up to the edge of the tree reflection. That really is a lovely image Steve

Re: Lock House

I'm not a big lover of this type of processed look and it will depend heavily on which judge you get at the club comp. Some judges will like it, others will not so you're in the hands of their taste as to whether it comes off. Some judges take the view that hevy processing like this is done to 'hide' problems in a picture.

Compositionally the picture works nicely enough and I think a more natural photographi look and slightly stronger contrast would make it more appealling.

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks Rob.

You may know that i myself am not a fan of heavy processing, particularly HDR, as I think that it spils a lot of images. I think this Orton effect is about as far as I am prepaered to go with it to be honest........I do like the 'dreamy' quality that it can give a picture. I also agree about the contrast, I stuggled to get a decent balance with the original shot due to the big differences in the brightness of the picture. The lack of contrast in this is partly down to the Orton effect and partly down to a difficult exposure in the first place.

@ Charlottte - I wish i would have thought of cropping that a bit tighter. I had to clone a car out on the right hand side as it was. if i'd have kept the square format and cropped as you suggest it would have saved me a bit of work

Re: Lock House

I think it's a pleasant enough shot but could do with another element of interest (sunset/rise, patch of sun, boat in water, etc) and I'm not sure that the processing does much for it. And you've rotated it too far - if you look at the telegraph pole and the reflection in the water...........
