Lone Tree Retake
I posted a retake of my Lone Tree shot at the end of that post and think it kind of got lost so I didn't get any response regarding preferences for the original or the retake (except for Charlotte - Thanks again).
So, with your indulgence, I'll post the two here and ask for your opinion on which one I should keep or if I should return and try again. Armed with all of your suggestions, I returned to retake the shot. The conditions were, of course, different - the original morning was misty and overcast with traces of fog. The second try was with a partly cloudy sky and no wind. So, I was able to get a better reflection but had to use a contrast layer to recreate the background look. Tried to put the tree more on the third which was tough with the presence of a boat on the far left (Markulous and Rob) and, include the full reflection (Fiona), include the willow for balance (Dogdots) and accomplish all this while still making the tree stand out from the bg (Charlotte). The original: ![]() The retake: ![]()

Re: Lone Tree Retake
I like both shots but as per original thread I agree about the reflection and very much liked Markulous s pimp. I think your retake was worth the time with the much calmer water and the enhanced green of the tree and grass under the tree....whether that's down to different lighting on the day or not i'm not quite sure.....regardless I think it's a cracker!

Re: Lone Tree Retake
Nichpr I really like the second shot you took. I am so glad that you went back and took another picture. Being a weeping willow lover I think you did the tree justice. The way you show the willow weeping into the water--Awesome from my view. I'd say this one is a keeper. The other one is to---it just depends on individual tastes. One thing I would do is give alittle more space for the willow to the right.
Did you take a picture with the boat in the shot? That would be nice to see. Again---loved what you did. |

Re: Lone Tree Retake
I remember posting for the background on this shot, I like the original and still do even though I was one of the first to say so.

Re: Lone Tree Retake
So glad you went for a reshoot - they're both different and good in their own way.
Think the balance is a little off in the 2nd - too much space on LHS and needs a little more on RHS but the reflection works well |

Re: Lone Tree Retake
Paul, I say this in the nicest possible way.... who cares?!
I say that because both are lovely shots ![]() Ok, if I hasve to choose I'll go the 2nd but to me they are entirely different shots and don't need to compare, both are nicely observed and taken shots ![]() Cheers, Rob |

Re: Lone Tree Retake
On 2nd look at these Paul, I like them both. Love the creative lighting in the 1st one; love the reflections in the 2nd one.
To answer your questions ... keep them both and return for more - you might get other variations that you like just as much |

Re: Lone Tree Retake
A sincere thanks to all who responded.
I was surprised at first that there was not a clear preference of one over the other. But then, that is why I asked because - I couldn't decide either.. ![]() So, Charlotte - that's just what I will do. Keep them both in my portfolio and add more through the seasons - one in the fall with the color change and one in winter over the frozen ice. Thanks again. ![]() - Paul |
