Re: The Look
mm not quite sure if i like this of not Geoff............... to me it looks too much like a passport image, the eyes although looking at the camera have a vacant look..... i think if she put a little more warmth or emotion into her eyes it would improve. i also think its maybe too tight a crop.

Re: The Look
I am with Fi on this Geoff.
In addition, the skin tones are off. She is purple on one side and on the other the highlights are nearly blown. One problem is that I don't think that you used all mpixels you could for uploading (under 200) and that caused some loss of resolution. I hope that you don't mind because as I thought about it, I thought about mono, which I love, and so this. Levels, hue/sat adjustment, shadow/highlight adjustment, decrease noise. skip btw...what is a grey lady?

Re: The Look
Thanks for the comments, I can see what you mean.
The Grey Lady was my posting of the "Mask of Personality" image where her face was split into six segments with the Eyes mouth segment in mono. Geoff |

Re: The Look
You have a lovely wife and I don't blame you wanting to get plenty of pictures of her Geoff. The problem with close-ups like this is that they put more detail into skin than we would normally want to show so I have had a little play to soften her skintones while keeping the sharp detail of those powerful eyes.
I also made a mono version of the adjusted picture to see what you think. Cheers, Rob ![]()

Re: The Look
Interesting comparison of monos, Rob. Mine is sort of "in your face", forcing the viewer to look, while yours is softer, and in many respects more pleasing.
However, I think that both monos are valid expressions. skip |

Re: The Look
Absolutely Skip, it's interesting how often one picture can so easily become two entirely different images with different treatment, both entirely valid.
Cheers, Rob |

Re: The Look
Thanks for all the comments, and nobody noticed the pic was at an angle!
I'll try harder next time but it is hard trying to coax one's daughter in law. Geoff |

Re: The Look
What's the problem with the pic being at an angle (albeit a very slight one!) it works fine. Having the eyes on a straight horizontal line can make portraits more like passport photos so this is fine by me
