Lurcher portrait
Every now and then you press the shutter and you just know that, by sheer fluke, everything comes together and you just manage to capture something just right!
Our bird table sits just a few feet outside our sitting room window and I was standing in the room photographing the birds and squirrels as they came over to feed. One of my Lurchers happened to look out of the window and saw a squirrel sitting on the fence. He was absolutely transfixed and I took my chance! I am really pleased with the result. All natural light on an overcast but bright day and it has had minimum processing. I know the crop is a bit tight on the right hand side but the kitchen window was in the background and was completely blown out and it really distracted from the picture. Would welcome any comments - good or bad!

Re: Lurcher portrait
This is a fantastic shot Angela, right place at the right time to get the shot just perfect. DOF is spot on and the focus is superb!!
I can see what Mark has done with his edit but have to say that I prefer the subtlety of the processing on your original. Its sharp but not in your face and has the classic 'portrait' feel to the processing, which is just as valid for animals as it would be for humans. Mark's conversion to black and white has lost some of those subtle colour tones of the original which I feel add to the photo too. So its a great shot that I would have been very pleased to have captured myself.

Re: Lurcher portrait
Great image of your very handsome hound! Spot on
I much prefer the colours of the original but quite like the extra space added to the right in Marks' version . |

Re: Lurcher portrait
Thanks guys!
I did originally convert to mono but felt that it did lose something but, yes, not sure why I didn't think to add something extra to the tight-cropped side!

Re: Lurcher portrait
Lovely shot Angela and I like the space on Marks, but like the colour version for the lovely deep brown in the eyes. I would have tried to remove the dark line next to the neck.
He's a lovely looking boy. |
