This eliminates the background problem. It know it is a bit soft, but that is intentional. How would you improve it, make it more artistic in post processing?

Replied to this in gallery so copied it here for you.
A nice crop for a head shot but could have been improved by making it a bit more even, the problem with low rez black and white images on forums is they tend to look really poor quality.
As you said, it is a bit soft but which was intentional but the eyes really ought to be sharp and maybe a little more contrast in the eyes as well. This is only my humble opinion so just tell me to shut up if you like

I agree with Gary. The eyes ought to be sharp, even on a soft shot.

You are both absolutely correct. I went back to the RAW image, and the eyes are still not sharp. My bad, as the kids would say.
