At first glance I thought the forground face of letters stood out and was distracted by the archs up above. Thus I thought I would lessen the effect of the ceiling. For what ever reason the flat face at bottom seems to stand out and look better with more effect.

I like the conversion, but as you said it does look a little oversharpened. It's more unconventional composition here, but I think there is more or less enough interest in the arches to make it work

I thought it was an LA effect - if not, yes oversharpened! - but not unpleasent.

Thanks Jack, the conversion was just desaturating in LR on the raw file

Cheers Graham I think the oversharpening was to try to compensate for lack of depth, but went a bit overboard
