Mono Conversion

I've been playing about with mono conversions without much luck. As I'm a bit colour blind, I can't make out if there is any hue in this picture. I'm not so worried about the low skill level in the conversion, more a steer if I've actually got a mono without a tint! Doubless you will be able to tell me.

Re: Mono Conversion

I can still see some colour on the middle boat and on some of the awnings/shutters on the house above the first boat as well. The sea also has a tint to it - any help?

Re: Mono Conversion

Thanks, Chris - That's where I suspected I had a problem.

I think this is better

Re: Mono Conversion

Which method are you using Graham to convert ? I would always recommend using Channel Mixers, with tick box for Monochrome.

Re: Mono Conversion

Dave - I always do things the hard way. I use saturation and hue along with histogram and/or curves.

From what I can gather, in PSP X, if the mono box is checked, it only uses the 256 greyscale, whereas if you stay in RGB, you get much wider tonal control. (Apparently).

I'll keep plugging away.

Re: Mono Conversion

Yes, PSP X does have channel mixers. I was mistaken in my belief that the mono checkbox forced a greyscale channel. You have seen my first effort with it on the other thread. I'll keep going using both methods to see what works best, but maybe when I've had more practise the channel mixer will be the way forward.
