Mono from yesterday
Severely lacking in inspiration at the moment
and this was the best I could manage from a quick trip to Patmore Heath in Herts. I was after a silhouette but also trying to convey the vastness of the sky. It was taken with the Sigma 10-20mm, a lens I'm really starting to like, on the D200 and is more or less as shot apart from the mono conversion obviously which was done with the channel mixer.![]() |

Re: Mono from yesterday
Well I like it Hacker. I think you have managed to convey that vastness of sky with enough interest in the bottom half of the frame so the eye doesn't get bored.I love the starburst of light breaking through the tree too. I think it also conveys a feeling of coolness, with the leafless tree and big mainly cloudless sky. If your lacking inspiration now, whats going to happen when it returns?? Re: Mono from yesterday
I also like it Hacker
I might clone out the small amount of stray tree branch creeping in on the left hand side but otherwise its a clean shot. The processing gives it a cold feel and the starburst through the branches draws your attention perfectly to the center of the frame. Nothing wrong with that sir!! |

Re: Mono from yesterday
Good shot, Hacker, but I don't like the background. At least at this res, I had trouble making it out. Looked like some weird tent before I realized what it was. This would have been a better shot with a flat bg, but then it would have been like thousands of others that we have seen.
There may have been other ways to take this....down on your stomach at ground level, or from a different vantage point. Or tighter. This is the kind of shot that if you have the time, you walk around trying different ideas. Gee, and maybe there should be a separate thread here for just mono. ![]() skip skip |

Re: Mono from yesterday
I like the way the sun's coming through the tree, I think there's bit too much going on, not in the far background (which I hadn't noticed 'til I read skip's post) but there's too many trees for me. That, of course, is being rather critical as I really like the shot and I don't suppose you could have persuaded them to walk away 'til you'd finished.

Re: Mono from yesterday
Funny, we all see things differently. I like the shot a lot but hate the starburst point of light in the centre of the tree. It really distracts me big time from what is otherwise a really good picture.
I love mono but not gonna pander to Dave's whims, it doesn't rule! Both mono and colour are different styles and they both work really nicely In this case it is pretty much a silhouette picture so probably didn't have a huge amount of colour in it anyway. As Hacker said, it was taken specifically with mono in mind.I know Dave sees the world in black and white but then, he's mad anyway ![]()

Re: Mono from yesterday
Fantastic shot don't know what else to say brilliant.
Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here and drink what comes out"? |
