My first rose pic
Well, i did this for my girlfriend back at christmas...and came across it today....let me know what you think. only ps done is the contrast boost to the rose, i liked the way it made it stand out so much more.....
and one more thing....i dont know why...but when i uploaded it to pixalo, the rose came out of focus...i tried re-uploading a few times and every time the same thing...i swear the rose is in focus in the picture, i think maybe in the compression it did that. any ideas? ![]() |

Re: My first rose pic
Contrast colours of the roses works well and I wonder whether you need to push it so much - looks like it's resulted in very "sharp" edges to the red rose, giving it a slight "cutout" look
The lack of definition is, as you've spotted, compression - but then you've only used 41k of the max 200k! Try saving a larger (in space used, not pixels) image |

Re: My first rose pic
This should help :- Resizing Pictures for Pixalo . It's part of the guidelines highlighted at the top of the Members Gallery
Looking forward to seeing the sharp version , as I like the concept of the shot |

Re: My first rose pic
Also did you sharpen it before uploading? I sometime forget, and it can make a difference.

Re: My first rose pic
The higher quality image is definitely better and we can see the sharpness much better. I am not convinced the red rose needed such high contrast, the black areas are very strong. The general principle to remember is that the viewer's eye is drawn towards the lighter areas of a picture. This means you have that to contend with straight away ehre because naturally the lightest part will be the white roses. However, the eye also goes for the point of sharpness so if you let the white roses blur off just a tad, only enough to make them soft, not blurred, it will keep the eye's attention on the red rose. The blackness near the centre of the flower tends here to push the viewer's eye away rather than draw it in.
I hope that helps for a future shot. Cheers, Rob
