Re: nature
Nice simple subject and one with which I always have problems! With being able to alter whatever you want, what do you? Usually do the same as you, Fiona, and leave all as I found it - otherwise might remove/alter that which attracted me in the first place!
![]() Having said that, I'd have been tempted to remove the stalk and the piece of grass! ![]() Clone out stalk and grass. Cropped to square, to suit feather in the middle, slight rotate to put leaf firmly in the corner. Increased saturation (red/yellow) to add some leaf interest. Sharpen feather.

This is great explanation , it is extremely helpful for those of us that are new at ps or really for anyone , it increases our understanding on what actually has been done to get end result , (instead of just a tweak etc as that could be anything )again fantastic way of sharing knowledge and learning |

Re: nature
I like both versions here but entirely agree that the twig going across the feather shouldn't be there. I know you said you left it exactly as was but I would have removed that bit. The rest is lovely and it's a well focused and composed shot. I also like the frame you did for it Fi, looks great. I think for the overall result I would perhaps go for a middle ground between the two shots as Mark's is a bit too OTT, especially the sharpening and the saturation. I'd back it of from there but I must be honest and say the original is a lovely shot, twig aside.
Great work fi. Cheers, Rob

Re: nature
I've found that with shots like this - the simpler the composition the better - by that I mean the the fewer elements in the shot the more focus can be on the real subject - the feather in this case. So, removing the twig is justified here. Another thing that worked to your advantage is the wet rocks - this shot would have looked entirely different had the scene been dry. All in, nice shot.
Like the additional color in the leaf Mark was able to reveal - dead leaves are really tough to make attractive unless you are going for their texture - so drawing out what color remained was a good move. The texture of the feather in your original is the better of the two - again the feather is the subject. Nice effort.

Re: nature
Being a child of the 60's, I like the original just as it was shot, just as Mother Nature placed the scene. Well done!

Re: nature
thanx all........... i still cant make up my mind if i like the twig gone or not, but either way I am well pleased with this shot, not least because it is so far removed from my normal style!
