Re: in need of opinions pls
I like it generally, but I might have straightened it up a bit (it seems rotated to the right by a degree or two?). Also, there's a halo around the buidings and the foreground vegetation which looks a bit artificial.
But I like the composition and the ominous sky really suits it somehow. It's certainly an interesting image. ![]() |

Re: in need of opinions pls
very good shot, I like the way you burned the clouds it gives it a spooky feeling, the two lights on your RHS are distracting, other than that
also I've notice lately that something is happening to you images when you upload them, they don't seem as sharp as your images usually look. BTW, you probably like staring at it so much because water has that effect on people, it relaxes our mind, if you have a fish tank sit there and just look at the fish and you'll see stress just go away. |

Re: in need of opinions pls
Nice one Fi
Agree with GS. Presume the FG reeds were moving around as they seem a little soft. Have you thought about cloning and/or cropping the FG reeds? Would overcome the halo and softness, although I accept they give some FG interest. |

Re: in need of opinions pls
The sky looks fake to me....why is none of it in focus even at the point where the rest of the image is?
Looks like it could be a nice shot, but I think it's a little over processed. |

Re: in need of opinions pls
um cos the sky is a lot further away than the buildings.......... this was taken with a 5 second exposure on a windy morning hense the blurring of the reeds........i know it looks like it needs straighteneing but the buildings are upright so its straight.........the banks of the loch run up to the left. and Jack the sky is definately not fake! i was there the sky was there! lol

Re: in need of opinions pls
Agree with GS too: needs a rotate by 0.47 degrees (use the reflection to find the vertical).
I assume the haloisation is from Shadow/Highlight artefact and prefer without - whilst I've no problem with the windblown reeds (which, I think is why the sky is soft: wind has moved the clouds) |

Very nice and moody shot that is particuarly suited to the B&W medium. I too love the moody clouds, and even the foreground vegetation has a spooky look to it, no doubt caused by the slight wind blur during the long exposure. Great shot

Re: in need of opinions pls
It's promising but I can see a halo round the abbey which I guess is either from lassoing it and adjusting the land and abbey differetnly to the sky, or perhaps oversharpening?
anyhow - that was the first thing I saw when I looked at the pic. I'd also agree it needs to be levelled. There's a lot of stone detail in the abbey that could be brought out, it's a bit dark which is a shame as I could see this being a real attention grabber if it there was more of it to see. At the moment the middle of the picture just acts as a dark spot for the eyes to rest on. I reckon it will work but you need to pay attention to harsh outlines and overdoing the sky at the expense of other parts.

Re: in need of opinions pls
i think i may have been a little heavy handed on the lucis art which has caused the haloisation........... not oversharpened as it hasnt been sharpened at all.
i have tried to bring out some detail......... but you should see the original,. it was almost pitch black when this was shot and i dont want to push the building too far so i left it as best i could, maybe have to look at going back for a reshoot when its just a teeny bit lighter. thanx all Fi |

Re: in need of opinions pls
Sorry Fi but you're wrong, it DOES need straightening. You're looking at the bit that might not be perfectly upright (the building) but the place you should look is the reflection in the water as that is always straight up! I've adjusted it here for you, but have made absolutely no other changes whatsoever so that you can see the difference without other things affecting it.
Yes, it is overly processed but I still agree with you that it is a good picture and does make you want to look at it. It's not unusual for skies to be softer than the scene, especially with a long exposure as of course the clouds are moving so not over bothered on that point but there is a distinct halo and it's that which I think has raised the suspicion that it is a sky from elsewhere, even though it isn't :o) Good work here, the only thing to take from it is the thing that affects all of us at times: know when to stop the processing :o) Cheers, Rob ![]()
