Re: Never asked for an opinion before
The dog's face is spot on, sharp, colour, an interesting expression and he's looking into the frame. The dog's flank is a bit blown and the contrasting backgrounds creating that diagonal doesn't help. I also think it need a bit more space behind the head to the top and right would frame it better. HTH. A nice shot

Re: Never asked for an opinion before
I think Stephen has summed it up well. The framing is a bit tight, but we do not know what else was around that might have been excluded with the way you have taken the shot.
Not easy/possible to get the ideal background when photographing animals, and I'd trade the blown bits for the excellent exposure in the important bits. Very nice shot |

Re: Never asked for an opinion before
Nice angle and (s)he's got a lovely expression.
Background does detract a little, as does the blown highlights bottom left (but -1.0 exposure compensation would cure both, next time) |

Re: Never asked for an opinion before
I agree that the diagonal is distracting but it has allowed the dark head to be against a bright background with the lighter body against a darker background. Without that clear separation I don't think the image would have worked as well so for me the diagonal line is an acceptable trade-off.
If the image was shot in RAW you might be able to recover some detail on the blown area using Photoshop (or equivalent). |

Re: Never asked for an opinion before
Thanks for your time to look at this photo of daisy.
this was just a candid shot spur of the moment thing, i was looking after the sister- in- laws pet in our conservatory one afternoon . i used my olympus c-765/ 4 meg camera, all i had at the time but 1 month ago just upgraded to the 40d. with all you comments i have seen the photo again with a more critical eye i never noticed the blown highlights in the left corner, or the diagonal line creating a contrasting background, i focused on the main subject ,daisy ,everything else seemed not to matter but in reality it does.I suppose if i had noticed these faults i would not have put it up to be critised. [ but there again thats the whole point is'nt it? ] ![]() Thanks again

Aside from the point that if we could all see what works/doesn't necessarily work we'd be making a fortune - how often have I seen an image that the owner claims has faults whereas the reality has been that the 'faults' are what made the picture work! (Answer: loads of times!) |
