Newbie Still Life
Still life seems a popular past time although one I have not really tried before.
The truth is good although I will bathe in flattery where offered!

Re: Newbie Still Life
Could be an interesting subject, but I think you need to do something more with it, there isn't alot going on, how about partially peeling one of them to get different textures and perhaps getting in closer and trying different apetures to get different focus effects. If you are going for a black background, adjust the levels in PS until there is no texture and it's all the same shade, the colours of the fruit will really pop out at you then.

Re: Newbie Still Life
Thanks for the advice, it does need a bit more depth I feel!

Re: Newbie Still Life
I think it can work as is with different lighting, a strong light from one side and nothing from the other sides will cast some shadows, that will really bring the texture and depth of the photo out.
Crop is also a little tight, and the birds eye view is VERY boring and catalog like... Hope that helps. |

Re: Newbie Still Life
I would bathe you in flattery Souy but I didn't think dragons like having a bath
![]() I think everything that's been said covers it really. I would definitely have peeled one of the fruits, halfway and fold back the skin, to break up the picture and add an interesting focal point. I am not actually sure that a black BG works that great with muted colours as with these fruits. If the colours were stronger then yes, they'd really pop with the dark BG. As it is, I think they'd appear stronger against a light complementary BG. But, flattery bit here but truthful, well done for giving this a go as it is outside of your comfort zone and is where all photographers need to go if they want to improve. Cheers, Rob

Re: Newbie Still Life
Yep everyone's said it. The only other thing I'd mention is that I don't like the border
![]() I think it could work overlaid on a lighter shot, but because the BG's black, it just looks like half of the image has a gray line around it.... |
