Re: Not quite dressed for work (nude)
I kept flicking backwards and forwards between these two Simon trying to decide which one worked best. My conclusion is a combination of the two!
The eyes in 1 are not as pleasant as in two. Actually in both they would be better if you could get a catchlight in them to liven them up a little. The breasts in one are a much better angle than in two though. By that I mean the angle of her body. The couple of degrees turned towards you gives them a slight separation whereas in 2 they almost merge into one (apart from the aureoli and nipples). The slight separation definitely works more IMO. I was trying to work out whether she had a scar on her neck or whether it is the way her hair falls at that point and I think it is the latter. If it is the former, then you are right to leave it there but if the latter, I would move the hair. The area just above and behind the clavicle is a little off-putting because of the strong shadow which is separating the two areas. It might even be worth burning down the area behind so that it all goes into shadow and only the clavicle forwards is lit. The model does not have a big nose at all but it is made to look larger because of the strong shadow area. For this reason I think I would use a reflector to push a little light into this area and soften the harshness of the shadows. I don't mean it needs to show all the face, just a hint of detail would be enough really. Nice work overall and I enjoyed looking at the other pics on your site. Good stuff :o) Cheers, Rob

Re: Not quite dressed for work (nude)
I pretty much agree with Rob's excellent comments. He is so good with this.
The first image is better for the reasons he mentioned, but in addition, her look in the second is a bit off. Perhaps nervous, unsure, etc. It is a bit evident in the first shot, but not as much. As a point of interest, were these shots taken near the beginning of the shoot? Also, I am not sure how a tad more light at her back (reflector?) would be to lighten the shadows a bit. All in all, though, very nice work, as I said, so lets see more. skip |
