I did but thought I'd leave for a bit, as it is the critique forum didn't just want to say I like again. I think you have come a very long way since joining the forum and the processing in your last 2 shots shows this. You have picked it up a little to quick for my liking.
Very good stuff. |

Sorry guys, it has been in the forum for 3 days, and had 33 views, but not one critique, anyway, its back and i am awaiting critque, i know what i feel, bit would love to compare notes with others.
My wife says i dont leave things long enough, but it must just be me, if i look through the 'critique' section and see a new picture, i remark there and then, i just cant go back on another day. many thanks |

Maybe get rid of the sign? bottom right (Edit it's gone
) also I would have just taking a step back (if that was possible) and got more of the lamp in at the top.I like how you have processed in the shadows........nice colours and detail in the stone Looks like you had a good time in Cambridge Steve. Last edited by P-E; 10-02-2006 at 21:01. |

Well there was a discussion a while back about just submitting your first immediate thoughts over considered ones. Each to their own I guess.
Personally I like to look at an image, mull it over (like a fine wine) and then make considered observations. Otherwise I just end up saying 'Wow, great' or 'not my thing'. Anyway, to the image at hand: I think it's never going to be a great shot, the positioning and curves lead my view to the right and off into the sunset. I think if you were more straight on with the arches it could of held my attention better. That said, the post processing and sharpness are spot on, I think it could have taken a tighten on the curves and levels but that's nit picking. Minor detail is the small blue sign in the bottom right corner.

Thanks guys for your opinions, i am not a fan of this picture, i think its too busy for its own good, and seems to be a mish mash of assorted colours, with no real focal point, but i loved it on the day.
The day was full of deep shadows, and bright highlights, and the lack of a wide angle lens(any donations accepted ) made it difficult with these massive buildings close up.i do have a few other pictures of cambridge i may sort out. Thank you |

Anyway ... the photograph is not one of your best of the city so far - imo ! I don't know what the immediate surroundings are like, of course but a different vantage point with the wall mounted light more towards the left side might have helped the composition and been easier on the eye ? Like the others the technicalities are more or less spot on with good sharpness, contrasts between shade and sunlit areas. But, overall I cannot say this one does it for me ! That said I believe there is potential for a re-take to provide a great shot ! Thanx for re-posting Stev - might agree with your wife about the impatience thing though ... only if I knew you better !!
