One of my best macro

Made few days ago. I'll try to make more like this one. Damselflies are my favorite insects for macro photography.

Repeat what Dave said!
This is just amazing. What sort of damselflies do you have over there??? Whenever I approach one, it darts of even before I can turn the focus-ring

My feeling exactly

I wonder if Marcin is spraying them with super glue to keep them in place while he takes the pictures

Beautiful shot, Marcin.

(I'm sure the little droplets are hair lacquer. )

Re: One of my best macro

paulstan - I use Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF 100mm 100 f/2.8 F2.8 Macro USM lens.
Geir Andersen I think it's Coenagrionidae family but I'll have to check it.

no harm was done to this damselflie at all !!!

it was late afternoon when they are resting. the only time for taking photos of them is about 5 am or 7-8 pm. they sit still - if you are slow you could get really close to them.

please no not use glue or lacquer on them !!!

if you have to - use some water sprayer (kitchen or for flowers) - but they are always covered by water at 5 am !!!

Re: One of my best macro

Not too keen on this one, I have to admit - the shallow DOF and water droplets make it difficult to see. Many's the time I've gone out at sunrise to catch butterflies, dragons and damsels when they're still cool but I've never seen dew like you've got - a few drops of water but nothing like as much as that!

Re: One of my best macro

dew is disappearing quite fast at the morning. next time i'll try to take some more photos of surroundings (grass, maybe some flower). it all depends from weather conditions - if fog is comming at the very beginning you'll have lot's of small drops, after 20-30 mins it looks different. if you go to my website and look at the damselflies - platycnemis pennipes (with blue eyes) - all those photos are taken at around 5 am with 100% natural conditions. as you could see some damselflies are covered by very small drops of water and some of them are almost clear - this session took me about 30-40 mins and water was dissaperaing very fast.

Re: One of my best macro

Thanks for that - did rather wonder about it but now know what to look for if I manage to get out that early! Think there's the potential for a great shot if you step back a little and show the damsel in that environment with all those droplets

Re: One of my best macro

i was trying - it only sounds good. because it's early morning i'm forced to use flash. when you take a photo with flash from greater distance then 30-40 centimeters it all look artificial (shadows on grass at the back and so on). and your main object is no longer so impressive, it's just a part of something bigger. but try by yourself, maybe you'll like it.
