One of my old pics

This pic was taken right before I sold my Nikon D50 and 18-70mm. It was taken at an Armed Forces Day exhibit. It is a small ruck sack hanging on the door of an M109 Paladin 155mm mobile artillery battery. It was cloudy but bright, so I didn't need to use the flash or take it above ISO 200. I might have blown the depth of field a bit but I had no choice since the rest of the back of the vehicle and the hatch was not very far from where the Kevlar and ruck was hanging.

Interesting militaria image. Think I'd have preferred a portrait view - helmet at the top and bag hanging underneath

This picture speaks loud and somber. I like it.

Re: One of my old pics

Interesting view from Mary, I think it speaks loudly but not in the slightest sombrely. To me it is a soldier's helmet and bag left to hang while he goes off for a sandwaich or something. It doesn't have anything of the poignancy of a war photo which susgests the equipment has been left by a fallen comrade or whatever.

I am not saying it should, that wasn't why the pic was taken. I am just saying I don't see this as a dark pic at all. As it is it is handled well enough, but I entirely agree I'd prefer a different composition that shows the bag as well as the helmet.

Cheers,
Rob
