An oodjamaflip ... or is it a wodjamacallit?

No idea what it is but I like seeing old machinery like this and immediately thought it would look good as a mono done in old style. See what you think anyway

All comments greatfully received, positive or constructively negative.... that's what it's here for

Cheers,
Rob

like the pic, not sure about hte processing, it seems abit over sharp and harsh on the eyes in certain parts of the image,.( bottom half ) would like to see it with just a normal mono conversion.

I thought the same thing when I first looked at the picture, to sharp. But after viewing it for a while it truly looks like an old photo that may have been found in an attic.
I'd ad some vignetting to the photo, to take it over the top with that old vintage look. Perhaps some discoloration or sephia would look great also.
A different border would also help, a fancy one that makes the photo's edges look raggedy and unkempt.

I am not to keen on this. The old time effect is OK but the machine looks lost in with the background. The textures of the wall and legs are too similar. I would be interested to see the original as a comparison.

I think the bush in the bottom left hand corner takes takes some of the emphasis off the machine, may be just plain old b&w would have done it.

Is it a mangle?

Re: An oodjamaflip ... or is it a wodjamacallit?

The composition looks good, but I agree with the others, that the processing makes this image rather hard work to look at. So add my vote to see a plain mono version

Re: An oodjamaflip ... or is it a wodjamacallit?

There is no bush in the bottom left corner, it's grass going along the side of the path.

No, not a mangle, I had a good hard look at it and there was nothing that I could figure it out with so can't really offer much of a clue. I'll ask the next time I go past and see if the owners know.

The mono version alone didn't work as well as having a slight tone which is why I added it. The texture problem is the reason, it tended to blend too much into the BG wall. There wasn't enough distance between it and the wall to give a decent diff focus.

I should point out this was taken with my wife's S5, not with a dSLR and so getting a quality blurring as it goes back was not possible due to the smaller sensor.

Not got a straight mono version so can't give you that to compare with, but that's ok. I am not that worried about that aspect of it. I was just trying out something a bit different to my usual so gave it a go. Didn't really come off so I'll stick it down to experience and move on

Cheers for your comments,
Rob

Seems a bit contrasty to me. I really like the composition, however.
