Hello,
After my disaster with Monochrome Murphy in Sigma Photo Pro 3.0 I thought I'd give Paint Shop Pro 9 a go, I don't have/use Photo Shop or whatever you call it ![]() No Exif data as I saved each shot as a new file. This is 3 shots put together, taken in colour with Sigma SD14 and the Sigma APO Macro 150mm F2.8 EX DG lens. Each shot was converted to black and white via Chanel Mixer [r=75%; g=10%; b=15%] with noise added at 9% Graussian [is that spelt right?]. Put together and re-sized at 72ppi for web. I'm interested in what you think of the conversion [I like noise/grain you might not?], the shots as a group [presentation], and individually if you want to comment on that. Any thoughts/advice on improvements? Ooh, I should mention it's a bronze coloured statue/ornament and the face features are hinted at, not defined as such, it's coloured to include a few highlights and I put the lying down shot in the middle as the background looks a bit different to the other two shots, they blended too well together so I thought it better to split them up. Also I stuck it in my light tent thingy with a white background to shoot it and even sat it on some videoes at one point, but that's neither here nor there... ![]() If the shot doesn't show up click HERE Thanks ![]() ![]() |

Re: Ornamental Poses - PSP 9 b+w conversion
Always good to see trying something different - think I prefer the 1st, not too sure of the trio but think they'd work better across rather down as a group.
You've also saved an 850px shot at only 65k which is cutting down considerably on the detail that'll display. |

Re: Ornamental Poses - PSP 9 b+w conversion
Thanks Mark,
I like the pose in the 3rd shot best, but the darkness of the statue in the 1st - never happy ![]() When it comes to saving them I usually just save at 72ppi and about 600 - 800 px across so I can upload them in one of my photo groups. I'm never sure how big to go. For Pixalo and my own gallery should I just be knocking it down to 72ppi and let it set the width x height itself? |

Re: Ornamental Poses - PSP 9 b+w conversion
Doesn't matter about ppi. You can ignore this - until you come to print, as it's only relevant to printing. 600-800px is what I use but I do ensure that the physical size is about 200k, otherwise I lose too much detail or it pixellates

Re: Ornamental Poses - PSP 9 b+w conversion
Right, so you just reduce to 600-800px and ignore the ppi? I thought you were supposed to reduce it to 72 for web use? My shots show up as 180 before I change anything, and I do hate the loss of quality/detail in some shots after reduction.
Thanks Mark will start doing it that way from now on ![]() What about this: ![]() Last edited by Rosegold : 03-04-2008 at 17:16. Reason: To add photo |
