Out of comfort zone
ok so i dont do flowers very well...... and i dont do macro very well either....... so half way up a rock face i find these tiny flowers on their own, flower heads are at the most 1cm in diameter havent a clue what they are but they were asking to be shot......... so please rip to shreds as I have a LOT to learn about flowers and macro.
![]() oh and if anyone knows what they are if they arent weeds then i would be interested to know. Fi |

Re: Out of comfort zone
Hmmmm.....perhaps you have come across another genre for you, Fi.
I actually like this. It is a very good study in white, brown and green, with just a touch of contrasting yellow. Good depth of field. My only suggestion would be to decenter the flower just a bit more. Otherwise a cracking shot (as you guys would say). skip |

Re: Out of comfort zone
hmmmmmmmmmm yep i see what you mean about it being centred......... it is a crop as on the left there is a pretty unsightly half dead flower....... will have another look later.

Re: Out of comfort zone
I like this too Fi
In this shot I don't think the light patch of sky detracts from the image, it adds to the context, and the flower is strong enough to hold the eye. Well done for showing us yet another facet of your ability. |

Re: Out of comfort zone
Now this I like! Only thing I would do here is crop off the top to within about 1cm above the top edge of the blurred flower + that'd be all she wrote

Re: Out of comfort zone
I like this shot too Fiona, I would agree about cropping to get the flower on thirds...
Haven't got a scooby doo what they are though

Re: Out of comfort zone
Works well for me Fi, as you've chosen a good angle to get an interesting background to support the main subject

Re: Out of comfort zone
Fiona, nice shot - like the angle of the clif and the subject - very interesting seed pods behind each blossom. However, I find that part of the rock that is in sharp focus in the foreground a bit distracting. Additionally, if you could have moved a bit so that the entire edge of the blossom that is in focus was clear of the flower behind and to the right - you would have an entire clearly defined edge all the way around and would make the blossom stand out even more.
Now, I can imagine that you were precariously perched on your tip toes to get this shot and the last thing on your mind was blossom separation.........
