Re: out of my comfort zone
Beautiful shot Fi, the foliage is a spectacular blanket down that right side. Well-composed. Not bad for someone who says she can't do landscapes! Think you're wrong wee lass! :o)

Re: out of my comfort zone
Hi Fi
Well, allow me to sing a different song. I think this image is too "monochromatic". The colors are all greenish and brownish, with a bit of yellowing and orangish. To my eye, there is not enough contrast. In addition, there is nothing here to focus upon. My eye just wandered about, looking at different things, none of which were incredibly interesting, and then wandered off to my keyboard. ![]() I dunno, it just seems bland. Can't expand more than that. Limited vocabulary. ![]() skip |

Re: out of my comfort zone
It's not that bad although does seem to lack a point of interest.
Possibly cropping slightly differently might help. From a technical standpoint it does appear you have slightly over saturated the image in post processing. Please don't feel slighted by my comments, it's just my opinion. |

Re: out of my comfort zone
I can see what skipper means about lack of focal point, however I really don't mind. I found that my eye circulated around without leaving the image and found something new to look at each time, nothing striking just lots of subtle details. I love the colours, but I don't find the shadow coming over from the left does much for me and would have preferred less of it.
A good shot of a really gorgeous location. |

Re: out of my comfort zone
thanx folks for the comments....
Skip, i know what you mean about no focal point, there wasnt however any focal point i could include...... the reason i took the image was the view itself and sometimes as Dan points out there is enough to hold the eye.......well i thought so anyway! lolol. Soup, hey im not slighted i did ask for critique ..... although im not sure i agree about the over saturation ( on my monitor anyway) ![]() Dan yep thats what i thought, unfortunately i couldnt get a better view without the shadow, i did lift it slightly but i do tend to agree its not quite enough. many thanx again all Fi |

Re: out of my comfort zone
It's a nice pic, Fi, but does not have the impact or statement your shots usually display.
I go along with pretty much all of the comments, the shadow being the killer, and if the water could be taken as the focal point, it is obscured by the treetops. |

Re: out of my comfort zone
Hi Fi,
I like your shot but think there is some merit in the comments made about focal point. Saying that, I don't think the "rules" always work as my initial reaction was to enjoy the colours and navigate my eye around the picture. Can I ask a bit of a thicko question? How did you do the Copyright and title in the border? Also the drop shadow? Rather than have you explain all to me, is there a link you can send me - or should I just get off my a*se and look it up in Photoshop? Basically, give me a clue please!!Nice one!

Re: out of my comfort zone
I would love to print Skip's comment and ask my foreign students what it means. How on earth can something that is 'green, brown, yeloow and orange' then be 'monochromatic'? LOL, don't worry, i know the point you were trying to make, just sounds a bit strange :o)
Fi, here is the slightly pimped version I mentioned with just a tad more detail in the shadow area to see what others think. I feel the pond is enough of a focal point and it doesn't need much more as it is the colours of the autumnal foliage that are the picture itself. Just goes to show how we all enjoy different things in pictures: all of which is valid. Cheers, Rob
