Pattern in Angkor Wat
This ancient Cambodian complex is full of photo ops, many of which have be seen in many galleries, websites and photo albums.
This is, I hope, a different image. I adore the repeating pattern, depth, perspective and shadows and color. It is one of the images that I am presenting for review at the seminar next month. Thumbs up or thumbs down? ![]() skip

Thumbs up for me! Love the lines in this and I just want to walk down there right to the other end.

I like ths one, Skip. The shadows and highlights are nicely balanced, and there are great diagonals in the shadow cast from the light from the top left hand side as well as the ones on the floor.
Why didn't you enter this one in the 'perspective' assignment? |

Lack of commenting is a loud cry on most sites Skip. I'm on another site frequently and it's the outcry there so guess it's the norm. Sometimes, because I'm just an amateur, I feel a bit shy to say anything negative about images as I feel that there are always some who know so much more than I do so I guess many might feel that way? But I love this shot.

Re: Pattern in Angkor Wat
I love the shot, and echo what everyone else has said about wanting to walk in to the image. PErhaps the only thing I would change, would be to ensure the first pillar was in focus. I don't know why but I do think this would improve the image for me....
That said I am being very picky!!!!!! Matt |

Re: Pattern in Angkor Wat
Thank you everyone for your comments.
This is an old saw, but you don't have to be a professional to tell why you like or dislike a photo. Everyone has opinions and none of them are wrong. And so, disagreement is usual, but here we do it in a respectful way. So don't be timid....chime in with your views. Matt, I looked at my RAW, and indeed, the first column isn't crystal clear, don't know why because I shot at 1/250 and f/7.1 with a short lens. And Dab...I didn't even think of this for the perspective. In fact, I didn't think about it at all until I was going through shots recently for portfolio review next month. That brings up two other points....1, I rarely discard images, and 2, it pays to go back and review older images...our ideas and viewpoints change and what might not have been interesting a year ago may be fascinating now. 'nuff said. Off the soapbox and hopefully back on subject. skip |

Re: Pattern in Angkor Wat
I love it, works superbly as a semi-abstract shot with depth and well angled lines, especially the shadow lines which I think make this picture as they angle into the depth. Very nicely done Skip.
May I, without intending to go off topic, respond to Patzt concerns also. Patzt, I learn easily as much from the comments of relatively inexperienced people as I do from top professionals. I listen to each and every pedrson whatever level they are. Some comments of people who are very experienced are actually very predictable, however correct they are. But it is often the inexperienced eye that points out something that might be so blindingly obvious I have missed it completely! So PLEASE, everyone no matter how experienced you are or not, please make comments as they are helpful, valid and wanted by the people who post their pictures here. Back to this picture to bring topic back, I really think you have handled the lighting excellently Skip with detail in the shadows and no burnt out light areas. Well done. Rob

Re: Pattern in Angkor Wat
Well seen Skip, you have handled the difficult lighting situation very well indeed, I like the repeats in the "arches" too. The inclusion of a figure toward the far end would have introduced a sense of scale perhaps.....perhaps not!
