Re: Pincushion Protea
Not a lot to be said really.
From a technical point it's good including colour and lighting. It's always difficult to decide what to do with the plant stem though. |

Re: Pincushion Protea
Flaaaars not really my thing but is a good sharp image, nicely presented. Seems to be lacking a little punch/impact and have a reddish cast:
![]() Altered Levels to reduce the red and allow the other colours to come through as well as set the White Point. Burned back the stem (not so much 'cos it distracted as it was lit in the same way as the flower - if that makes sense!). Gave it a little more space RHS and top. Sharpened it 'til my eyes started to bleed - and then sharpened some more! ![]()

Good pimp, Markulous. Mouldy - for me I'm happy with the "pins" really standing outagainst the black b/g but the centre just seems a bit of a mess, if you know what I mean - although TBH I'm not sure what else you could do except maybe selectively adjust the contrast for that area.

Re: Pincushion Protea
I actually prefer the original, I don't think accurate colours are doing it any favours.
The highlights look a bit blown now. |

Re: Pincushion Protea
Ahh, good thinking Stephen!
![]() Take 2: ![]() I was so carried away with the whole Levels/stalk thing that I didn't consider the centre - bit of burning is all Yeah, Soup, can see what you mean about the white point - maybe better if I'd pulled that back a bit ![]() |

Re: Pincushion Protea
Thanks for the input and the pimps, I didn't really know what to do about the stem, i played with it a bit, but in the ned i just left it!!!!
There certainly is a slight colour cast, I was keen to make the stalks really 'pop' out against the black background, perhaps I did overdue it a little. ( saying that I'm looking at the original flower now and it really is quite orange!!!!) I have had this one printed at 12x12 and i have to say you can see so much more detail, particularly in the centre of the flower than you can on a screen... Thanks for taking the time guys, much appreciated MAtt |

Re: Pincushion Protea
Wow, the second one of Mark's really is a strong image. Like that loads.
Great original shot despite the colour cast, gave plenty to work with and Mark has done the biz in the final touch up. Great work all round. Cheers, Rob |
