Poor Valentine

The last hurrah of the roses I bought for my wife. Of course before pitching them, I had to take a picture. I did buy more than one

She hated the pic. Ugly, she said.

Sad, I said.

Re: Poor Valentine

Have to say, I like pictures of fading roses, but like to wait until they are really dead, leave them to dry & you get some amazing textures.
I would have moved the flower a bit away from the wall for this, & used a wide apeture to lose any detail in the background.

I'll put up my dead rose shot up in the gallery for you.

Sarah

Re: Poor Valentine

Thanks Sarah...I thought about the wall, but the wall was holding up the rose. I wanted the rose totally in focus, so I chose f/5.6, I think, realizing that the wall would be in focus as well.

I will fetch some from the garbage and wait a few days, then repeat

Love Lingers Long after the Flower Fades..........

Ditto on the distance from the wall but I might have used a smaller aperature to increase the DOF to bring those leaves in the lower left into better focus. On the other hand, a dreamy soft focus might work here too. Just what was the artist trying to convey?

Fading Flower in Fuzzy Focus yields Fabulous Foto. Floral Fanatics Flabergasted at Flacid Flower. Fragrant Flagging Floribunda Fetching in Final Flourish..... someone stop me!

That's the way! People will think you're mad, but you'll get an interesting shot.

Just posted my dead rose for you.

Re: Poor Valentine

"sad" was definitely the first thing I thought when I saw this Skip, so if that;s what you were aiming for, it worked for me! Perhaps a darker background would have been more evocative though?

Re: Poor Valentine

Paul, enough already with the appalling allusional attempts at alliteration!

Skip, sorry old friend but this one does nothing for me at all. At the risk of stating the obvious it is 'just a picture of a rose' and I agree with Angela that it somehow feels a bit sad just leaning against the wall. Ah well, you can always pluck the petals going 'She loves me, she loves me not....' and then dry them and use them for pot pourri

Or wait until it's dead and take a deep and meaningful shot that tells a story of loves labour's lost

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Poor Valentine

I was going for sad _ ie "Poor Valentine".

Agree, however, that the bg could have been better.

Sarah...your dead rose is great. I really like the warm colors.
