Poppy study
This was taken on my 20D using my Canon 100mm f2.8 macro, a lovely lens to work with. It took a while to get the shot I wanted, as square as possible to the subject to keep the focus across the head despite the relatively small depth of field. I have loads with a small part of the central head out of focus and they just don't look good at all. I cropped it tight because I wanted to keep all the attention on the central head and the 'crown' around it. I was attracted by the abstract feel this part of the flower gives. Hope you like it.
Cheers, Rob

I am a huge fan of the detail we pass by, in other words getting down close to flowers that we see every day but ignore because they look plain or small. When you get down and close they are full of wonderful detail and are a photographer's paradise. Thanks for looking and for your positive comments. Cheers, Rob |

Re: Poppy study
Yeah, a lovely abstract quality to this - smack on with the focus/DOF
Did you get any with lens slightly further away as I wondering how it'd look with a slightly larger "border" of petal? |

Re: Poppy study
It's no big deal as image is good as is - just that I think not cropping in so tight to stamens might look good as well!

Re: Poppy study
I don't think I would have recognized this as a flower. To me, there is an abstract, kaleidoscopic (?) effect that is terrific.
To me, the center is ever so slightly light. May be ok, but I wonder if darkening a tad would be better. I just burned it a little, and it produces a bit of a different effect. Some may like it, some not. I don't want to waste space downloading it here, and I really don't know how except to download it on my photos and copy. Can anyone help me with this? |

With regards how to show a pimped shot, here's what you need to do: Go to your personal gallery and you'll see the option to 'Create New Album'. Click on that and you'll get a little window asking for an album title and description. I suggest calling it 'PIMPED' or something similar. Undef that there is a drop down menu asking if you want the album to be private. Select YES. Now you can upload pimped shots to that album where nobody else can see them so they won't get viewed by others and commented on etc. To show a pimped shot, just click on the photo and underneath it you'll see the UBBCode. Click on 'Copy to clipboard' and the whole URL will be copied. Now in your message reply, just paste that back in (Hit ctrl+V) and that is that. Hope that helps and if you want to show me the pimped version of this shot, go right ahead. Cheers, Rob |
