This one of a series of photos I took when I was out the other day. I like it, but I'm not sure why?!?!?!

I like the way the colours 'pop' out from the dull surroundings.

I see it as a photographic version of modern art.
If you could include a full view of the red buffers I think that would help?

Thanks for your comments people. I did want to include all of the buffers, however there was a cardboard box and other bits of litter around the base which would have detracted from the minimilism of the shot, so I chopped them off!!

OK....for better or worse.

It feels "settling" for lack of a better term. The multiple rectangular forms are something we see every day, and the lines are all parallel and perpendicular, which again, is in our realm of comfort.

Now that would be ho-hum dull, except for 2 things. In two of the rectangles, there are non linear, colorful lines. And then there is this totally unexpected red thing in the corner, which jars the eye and brain, and together with the two rectangles, creates interest that would not otherwise be there.

And the crack on the wall and weeds add similar, tho not as obvious, interest.

So there you have it.

If it makes sense, good. If not, well hey, it is my interpretation and at least valid to me

Makes perfect sense. I think it feels 'comfortable', it is easy to look at, however for me has more and more of interest the more you look at it. I was initially drawn to the doorway with the coloured wires, but could not get close enough to make a study on that individually. I then saw the rectangles which leant themselves to being arranged in thirds...

See what you think to this Matt. I have had a look at it and tried to figure what it was that didn't make it feel right and kept the rest. I cropped out the bit of sky top left so that we were left with all lines that added to the abstract nature of the shot. I had a go at lifting the buffer upwards slighter in order to remove the dark strip at the bottom. It's not perfect but I think it helps.

I adjusted contrast with a shallow S-Curve and lifted the blues slightly so that they weren't swamped by the red of the buffer.

See what you think. I personally think you did really well to take this shot because it was there and you knew there was a picture in there even though you weren't sure why. That is the way a good photographer thinks so well done :o)

Yet again i find myself agreeing with Rob! Although I had not gotten around to posting here, I also thought about omitting the sky as soon as I saw the picture.

Another crop I thought might work was just below the peeling paint above the door. you can get the effect by scrolling the picture down to allow the browser window to do the crop. The finishing touch here would be the complete buffer assembly, but I appreciate it was left out of shot for good reasons.

Thanks Rob, I love what you have done with it. The curb at the bottom of the photo has always bothered me, but unfortunately I dont have the photoshop skills to deal with it!!!
Getting rid of the sky completely definately improves the shot. One of the parts of my photography that needs work is cropping, I could do with a bit more 'vision' occasionally and to realise that less is sometimes more!!!!

My pleasure, glad you liked it. Don't worry, you'll develop an eye for cropping, it takes time but looking at all the pictures on here, you'll be up to speed in no time.

The important thing is you have an eye for an image and took a shot that most people would have ignored so well done :o)
