Refining my focusing methods for birds
Tried focusing near to the bird and watch using a more selective method until the head at least looked good. I have always tried to light up the birds eye. Also I have been encouraged to push my USM a little more if needed. These cardnails fidget a lot, always have some kind of wiggle going on.

Re: Refining my focusing methods for birds
I think the only problem with this picture is not the focusing, but the lighting. You should have asked the little bird to face the other way, cause if it was it would be perfect!
