It's a Guy Thing Revisited

I didn't really like my first submission, and couldn't get it a lot better after 2 days of work.

So fortunately, Julie agreed to sit on the ashtray tonight, and with the help of the advice here, books, videos, magazines and google, think that I did better. Thank you all, for your help. I learned a ton.

I also printed it and found that Julie was too sharp and was sitting too far over the edge of the ashtray, ready to fall in! So I revised and resubmitted. Interesting that it took an 8 1/2 x 11 print to see this

Of course, I welcome c 'n c.

This is a shamefaced effort to bump this up to the top so that people will look and most importantly comment.

Or is it not worth it?

im not feelin her being out of focus, sorry im just not thinking i like the idea, but it might look a little better with her being sharp in the picture, or at least not as blurry

Re: It's a Guy Thing Revisited

Yes, I think she is too far OOF in this one, although it is a better image than v1.

Both of these images (v1 + v2 - I've not had any drinks - I'm still at work!!) are well thought out and executed, and have probably taken quite some time in their creation, but other than admiring your technical skill it does not 'grab' me. I find it the sort of image that would be produced for an advert or to promote a film.

I think the reason why there has been little feedback is maybe that it is difficult to put into words what this image does for people. You have said yourself in the past about how does an image make you feel. In this case, I feel nothing much. The image is totally artificial, and as I said earlier, I admire the skill in producing it, but I don't feel anything about it.

I know you like to get feedback on your images from members, and I think you would agree that the images that have attracted the most have been the ones that people can relate to. I am minded of the girl walking across the road and some of your portraits where the model has been captured to perfection and the image not only shows us the model, but also the person, sometimes her vuneralbility and often an insight into what she is thinking and feeling.

Re: It's a Guy Thing Revisited

i like what you are trying to portray , have been trying to figure out what it is that doesnt do it for me.... then it suddenly came to me its the girls no offense .I think you need your model looking sexy and sleek ,i would like to see you try it with your model in slink long black dress slit up the side...i believe it would capture the overall look much better then the models without clothing , to me it doent have the classy look to me it makes the photo look cheap as it you were in a low lit bar with cheap girls...i think with a long black dress with the slit you will have a much classier photo the gives you the feel of beauty and class ..if you know what i mean .Do think you have masterd the effects well though.

Re: It's a Guy Thing Revisited

To be honest Skip, I can appreciate the work that you've put into processing these pictures but they do nothing for me whatsoever. They put me in mind of a TV or magazine ad from the 70s which I thought were, conceptually, in poor taste then and time has not changed that opinion.

Re: It's a Guy Thing Revisited

Thanks guys....as I said originally, I put these up for technical help and practice. So, the board, reading and work has helped me in photoshoping.

And I agree that the images don't invoke much sentiment.

Angela....guy things are often in poor taste

Thanks again

Big improvement on the lighting this time. Have to agree with Chickadee - a sexy and classy gown would convey an entirely different theme than the thong.

Re: It's a Guy Thing Revisited

I'll do the taste thing and then get baco to the photo which is what this is really about.

I have to say it is NOT a guy thing, I don't like pictures of scantily clad women as I met the most beautiful woman in the world 20 years ago and made sure I wouldn't lose her - I married her! I don't measure beauty in terms of physical dimensions, age or anything else, it is all down to the person concerned and frankly there isn't a model you could put on Pixalo, with or without clothes, that could hold a candle to my by beloved wife. Despite the fact it might seem a little old-fashioned and a lot of guys don't always come forward and say it, I am optimistic enough to believe that most married men actually feel the same way, even if it isn't deemed 'macho' to admit it!

Ok, back to the photo and its technical merits as I know this is why Skip posted it. You've done a much better job of blending the girl into the picture by making her less sharp, especially as the back edge of the ashtry is not in sharp focus. I think she is a tad dark, especially given she is projecting a fairly strong 'shadow' onto the ashtray. However, it is not a glaring problem and the overall image sits together pretty well, much more so than the first effort so well done Skip.

I would hate for this all to be taken too seriously, it is pretty obvious the image is not supposed to be serious, but I can of course understand that some might find it goes against their personal taste. It isn't to mine but as a picture I can see the technical merit and the improvement due to what you learnt from the previous attempt Skip so well done

Cheers,
Rob

Re: It's a Guy Thing Revisited

Hey Rob....thank you for your very kind comments on the technical aspects. I appreciate them greatly.

Ah me, the web is such a difficult place to talk with nuances like sarcasm, hum(our), and all the other fine points of face to face communication!

I never want to start a firestorm with any of my comments or images, but it seems to happen, in spite of smileys faces. I guess a dialogue is good, huh?

That's all.
