Seagull

I'm not a wildlife photographer by any means but having just bought a new bag that allows my (under-used) zoom to be carried, I thought I'd try it out and post for feedback, comments etc.

Here's the pic of this little chap enjoying the sun and watching the world go by:

Biggie (0.5mb): http://milouvision.net/forum/CRW_7560-01a.jpg

and it's a crop from this one:

Details 1/1000 sec @ f4.5 at 200mm ISO 100 on a 70-200L f/4. I used the centre focus point on a 300d to try and focus on his eye (might be a she though!)

I'd be pleased for feedback, comments and suggestions etc.

Cheers

David

I like the crop with the space to the left.

There's a very real tendency when you get a long lens to go after these critters and fill the frame as much as you can. A better overall picture is usually obtained though by showing more of the surrounding environment/habitat and leaving yourself room to crop.

I agree with CT. While I'm not expert, I do prefer the shot with the empty area to the left. Gives the image direction and shows he's looking somewhere....

One thing that is niggling me with the first shot is the ring under his beak caused by the bokeh. Unfortunate I suppose but I think it would be easily fixed in photoshop.

I know what you mean about the bokeh - it is distracting. I read somewhere that for portraits, it's often best to have a light against dark and vice-versa. Cheers for your comments
