Sepia attempt

Hi,

i'd like to know some opinions on this attempt at this image. I didnt like the shot in colour or just plain b&w so i had added a sky from a lesser exposed shot, decreased saturation, added sepia tones, added a small vignette and finally dropped the highlights (maybe too much?).

does it work for you? i will post the original if anyone want to see it!

thanks,
Steve

Re: Sepia attempt

I repeat what I said in your gallery ...

Wow Steve, I love this one!

Needs a slight clockwise rotation. Other than that, no recommendations from me

Yes, I'd like to see the original please (to get an idea of your processing on this)

Composition is great, tones are great, and the sepia treatment has worked a treat!

Love it ... yes it definitely works for me

Re: Sepia attempt

I think this really works, and it's the processing that's saved it. Tbh, the original is quite boring, but whatever you did, it has really worked and turned this into a very romantic, beautiful image.

Thumbs up from me, love the sepia, theres just one tiny niggle which is the water bottom right, it just keeps pulling my eye to it

Re: Sepia attempt

Think it works pretty well and the sepia treatment suits - except the sky! But that can be rectified easily enough - the water is very bright yet the sky is relatively dark, so looks 'dropped in'. Dodge up the sky highlights to more closely match the water (and maybe burn back the handrail a touch as it is very strong)

Mark has this nailed. Yes the replacement sky really has made the shot but at the same time its letting it down as the light balance is wrong. Sky's are almost always 2/3rds brighter than the ground in well balanced and composed shots, the fact that the reflection on the water is brighter than the sky gives this one away. Follows Marks advice and increase the brightness to balance it out and the results will be stunning

Re: Sepia attempt

I think the second attempt is much better but the water is still brighter than the sky and as you have said, the fence also grabs you due to its higher contrast.

A quick PS edit...
