Re: Serenity
The picture is a little small to see the detail and I think with a shot like this its the details that make or break it.

Re: Serenity
Yup..increase the physical size (dimentions) but keep your file size (kb) to 200kb or less.
It all depends on your image software, in Photoshop (my weapon of choice) I can select the file size when I come to save it and reduce it if required so that it meets our rules. I very rarely struggle to keep details and have a picture at the size I want while being under the allowed file size. Some basic things that might help is to reduce the DPI of your shot to 72DPI before you resize the shot. A PC cannot display higher resolution than that (in most cases) and a MAC if I remember correctly is 96DPI, so anything above those settings are just making the file sizes bigger and will display no benefit. If you are printing then its a whole different story but for displaying on the web...thats the way to go. |

Re: Serenity
If you are using CS2 go to File > Save for Web and do the following:

Re: Serenity
Cheers for the excellent diagram and easy instructions Colin
Remember our size limits are a little larger than most other sites though, so if you want to you can go up to a maximum of 1000 pixels along the photo's longest side and a 200kb total file size. ![]() I prefer to show my photos at a little smaller that our maximum allowed sizes but we leave that choice up to our members ![]() |

Re: Serenity
I think this would have benefitted from a lower shooting angle. The branches of the trees are very dominant in the picture, almost 'pushing' the fisherman down. Also, they are at a height where they are directly in front of the line of trees on the other side of the lake so there is a clash making that area all very busy. Dropping down would allow a greater expanse of water to complement the 'peaceful' aspect as per the title and would open the picture up a tad to let it 'breathe' so to speak. I don't think it would take anything away from the tranquility of the shot.
Sadly that is something you can't really change in PS so I haven't attempted to PIMP it, just something to consider next time. Cheers, Rob :o)

Re: Serenity
Thanks, Rob
I hadn't even thought of that. I tried a crop to try to decrease the problems you were talking about. Do you think it works? skip ![]() |

Re: Serenity
That's definitely an improvement Skip, taking away the sky area so that the eye only has one expanse of blue in the picture is a good move. Seeing it a bit larger definitely helps too. Keep up the good work :o)
