Re: 'shrooms.....
Good work. You might try different crops, perhaps a bit off the top and one of the sides to put the major mushroom a bit more off center, if that doesn't destroy the feeling.

Re: 'shrooms.....
Thanks Skip. I did try various crops, particularly taking a touch off the left side so the mushie at the front was less centred, but that meant losing a large portion of the orange/brown leaf. It seemed a shame as I really liked the colour!!
Jockwav you can borrow my bin bag anytime you like, but please return it when you have finished, we've become quite attached over the years Thank you both for your comments |

Re: 'shrooms.....
I like the shot a hell of a lot considering no macro!
Two things too note, from my point of view, the leaves are far too strong, in colour texture, shape, everything, and draw one's eye from the mushroom, maybe clear the leaves in the foreground, just a thought; and the sky in the background is blown and also distracting. Hope that helps. P.S. on second thoughts, I know the mushrooms were meant to be the SM, but if you removed them, you could get a bloody nice pic of the leaves...

Re: 'shrooms.....
It's a bit busy in the background, needed a fair bit of housekeeping to clear some of the dead matter so that the mushrooms and the front leaves take all of the attention. Definitely don't want that bright sky beyond so how about a letterbox crop?
As a general point, you called the shot 'shrooms' and therefore I assume you wanted them to be the centre of attention. But then you have placed a bright yellow leaf in front which due to its luminance and strong colour is taking attention away from the mushroom, as well as being laid so that it's stalk cuts across the mushroom, Now, there is no problem if you want to make it a picture of those leaves, that is fine. But it's important to think 'What is this picture I am taking?' Choose your central subject and aim to make it as strong as possible. Other things in the shot are ok as long as they complement the central subject and don't detract from it. I am not being harsh, I think what you achieved was excellent, especially given the restraints your were operating under. I am only mentioning this as thoughts for future reference. Well done in finding a way to steady your camera for a 1/5th second shot, not easy to do. Cheers, Rob

Re: 'shrooms.....
Thanks for your comments chaps. I did increase the saturation in the photo, and wondered whether I had gone a bit OTT with the leaves in the foreground... I did call the shot shrooms, but mainly for something to call it!!! Whilst the mushies are certainly the main subject matter, I was keen on the whole woodland scene rather than just the mushies.
The sky is certainly an issue and pulls the eye completely away from the subject matter. I think I'll try a bit of a letterbox crop as you suggest Rob, and reduce the saturation a tad, to see if I can keep the leaves whilst ensuring they don't detract too much from the mushrooms. Thank you both for taking the time to comment. I appreciate your comments |

Re: 'shrooms.....
![]() Took some comments on board- reduced the saturation somewhat, had a play with some different crops, any better?? I prefer it, couldn't bring myself to crop any tighter, thought it was important to show the mushrooms within their environment!! I'd appreciate any comments
