Re: Sign of the Times

Hmmm, very interesting idea here Fi. The high key approach isn't to everyone's taste but I am happy enough with it and this subject works fine. The only thing I would say though is that when doing anything like High Key or other work that leaves things that are less detailed, it is important that the viewer can get a good idea for what things are. There is a part in the white area above the central line of bullets that looks undefinable. It looks like an old TV aerial but I have a feeling it is a rouch sawn piece of wood and that is the end of it, could be wrong.

I'd like the bullet chain to be at a greater angle to make it a touch more dynamic, maybe from bottom right to top left.

I like the idea you have played with here and I think with some refining could make a powerful image. Keep up the playing as you always seem to come up with something of merit when you experiment!

Cheers,
Rob

Re: Sign of the Times

Hi Fi

I am with Rob. I looked at this for awhile, and for the life of me, I didn't know what the image was, until I read Rob's comment. That may just be me though.

I was looking for a tombstone.

I think that I would rather have the bullets on a diagonal. I don't think that the image is powerful enough with them on the horizonal midline.

Not being a gun person I can't relate to the environment of the bullets. What are then hanging on? What is that in the background? May be minimally important, but that is my first (second)? thought.

Finally, the title is sadly evocative.

Re: Sign of the Times

Would I be correct that they are 50 cal and ready to go in one of the 'big guns'?? I can just see their interlinking. ('old' army gal)

Basically, just curious if I am right.

Fi firstly you have a cracking idea and I do like this image however I feel it's a little flat in as much the round belt needs a little lift as it's a bit to uniform and flat. Try letting the round belt just fall on the floor/table and try some different angles but keep the B&W high key view point.

If you a macro lens try using that for some real close up views and play around with DOF.

Otherwise cracking stuff Fi.

Re: Sign of the Times

ok first of all. Teresa,,,, i have no idea whatsoever what kind of bullets they are ....sorry

Dave, unfortunately i cant do anything with them as they were on display and I am not sure they would be very happy with me if i started taking them off hte wall and dropping them on the table.
