Signs in Chinese market

Any comments please?

I did not like the White sky (its always Gray here in Hong Kong), but if it was Blue it will dominant the picture, right?

Good image. The one thing that strikes me immediately is that I would like to see more of the street. It sort of seems incomplete without it.

Maybe in a portrait mode.

Re: Signs in Chinese market

I hesitated a lot about portrait and seeing people, I wanted to show the colorful signs. I have few days off now, so will try it again, with and without the people.

You are not disturbed by the white Sky? I will look for angle where there are less sky visible. BTW aside form enjoying photography I use the Internet a lot, and it still amazes me how I can today share photos and views on any topic with someone the other side of the globe, whom I will never meet. Thanks.

Re: Signs in Chinese market

Actually the white sky didn't bother me at all. There is so much else going on in the image that I didn't really focus on that.

Yup, the fact that I in Florida are talking to you in Hong Kong boggles the mind

Re: Signs in Chinese market

I think you did right to minimize the white sky, it's not too prominent but would be distracting if there were a lot more.

As for people, a busy street scene, people going about their business with all this colour would be a great subject. I'd be tempted to try a tripod, take a slow shot, get the signs etc nice and sharp with people, movement blurred enough to recognise that they're people but showing the life of the scene.

Great subject and I'm sure there are many ways to portray it, I look forward to seeing some more from you.

Re: Signs in Chinese market

I think the signs have great impact and interest, but also feel there is something missing, and the answer is what the others have said. They are a little 'out of context', without the street and will be more effective is they were part of the 'whole' scene.

I'm also not bothered with the sky. The eye is held in the shot and does not wander to, or get drawn to the sky.

My local market seems even more boring than before, now

Re: Signs in Chinese market

Really really like it, think a bit more of the street could add to it, and maybe just a little burning on the sky, otherwise and none the less, great!

Re: Signs in Chinese market

Burn in PS, just make it little darker, cause getting the exposure right on the signs mean that the sky is blown out, and that to me is the only reason it is distracting...

Ohhhh, a slightly longer exposure in the rain could look amazing!! With the street in it as well!!

Re: Signs in Chinese market

Long exposure means I get wetter LOL

I tried to make the sky Blue using PS, by adding layer from real Blue sky in another picture, but I did not like the effect, looked strange to me, maybe because I seldom see Blue sky here.

I was planning to try a bit of different angle today, more from the side, so less White holes. Will try burn as well

Re: Signs in Chinese market

I have been there today again (its was dry day).

I tried long exposure but as some people move and other less, its very confusing result.

I tried different angles, with and without people, and I still need to enhance the colors, but comments are welcomed.

I added one picture here, the rest are in flickr (link attached).

Of the ones if Flickr, I liked those in the portrait mode the best. Felt the most comfortable and for me, gave the best composition .
